Creative Family Times At Sawdust Art Festival

Nov 25, 2016

Having difficulty accepting that the holidays are here? Looking to restart your excitement for the Christmas season, finding joy that bubbles up from within? Try visiting a local art festival in your area. We discovered art festivals when my kids were much younger and my husband and I wanted to begin sharing our love for art and creative things with them. We’d wander the stalls, nibble on delectable foods, and laugh when they got paint splattered or discovered a fun item. Jonathan used to sit on Santa’s lap (but now he’s almost too big, Santa was brave!) when we would…

Doctor Strange’s Costume Up Close!

Nov 4, 2016

We at the VT household have been recovering from a terrible bug, so I’m letting Jonathan take over today and show you an up-close look at Doctor Strange’s costume worn by Benedict Cumberbatch that we saw in a preview recently! And some great pictures as well. What did you think of the movie? The effects looked great but we wondered about some parts of the plot. Let us know your thoughts! More soon and stay healthy!   And remember to sign up for the blog and quarterly newsletter on the home page to qualify for an Amazon Gift Card drawing…

A Dog with Diamonds

Jul 2, 2016

A Dog with Diamonds? An intriguing curse? A miserable queen? Could so much adventure be wrapped up in the Hope Diamond? This may sound like a storyline for Raiders of the Lost Ark, except this all involves  one very famous gemstone called the Hope Diamond. It is an extraordinary deep blue color and weighs 45.53 carats. It was brought from India to Europe in the 17th century, when it was known as the Tavernier Blue and sold to King Louis XIV of France. It came to be considered bad luck for all its subsequent possessors, including Maria Antoinette, Lord Francis…

The Hidden Hearts

Apr 9, 2016

On a wonderful vacation recently I started seeing things. No, really. First, after swimming with the turtles, I was resting and taking photos when I felt one in particular might be special. Get it this direction, a little voice whispered. After I peeked at the frame, I saw why. As you gaze into the pool of water as it reflects the sky, you’ll see a shape. A heart. And its twin smiled at me through the windswept clouds as a slight drizzle began. Two hearts. The next day, on a boat tour around the island, a lush landscape came into…
