Amidst all the fun, in a quiet corner at Disneyland near the Lincoln exhibit, I stumbled into some of the props and original concept art for the upcoming Aladdin movie, which releases this Friday in theaters. Staring Marwan Kenzari, Mena Massoud, Will Smith as the Genie, Billy Magnussen, and Naomi Scott as Jasmine, the live-action movie is a remake of the animated one by Disney, where young Aladdin embarks on a magical adventure after finding a lamp with a very funny, wish-granting genie inside.
We were able to get so close to the carpet! I love the rich hues and patterns. Can you find the Lions roaring on it? And with my last name, of course I appreciate the tassels!
This is the concept art of the lovable Aladdin, often called a street rat and his monkey Abu inside the Cave of Wonders. They are searching for a magic oil lamp.
I can’t wait to see this in the movie – this is concept art for Princess Jasmine walking down the “resplendent staircase” in the Sultan’s gorgeous palace on the outskirts of Agrabah.
The stark contrast of Aladdin’s “home” on a rooftop in Agrabah is striking, especially with the Sultan’s palace visible through the window in the background.
The clothing they will be wearing is wonderfully tailored and colorful. Even the details on the jewels are true to the culture and heritage of that part of the word.
It always amazes me how story can bring to life an inanimate object like this lamp. It plays such an important role in the story. I love seeing a bit of magic from this!
Can’t wait to see the whole new world, can you? If you’ve seen it already, what did you think?
