Have you ever felt like the edges of your dreams—the ones where you’re a creative, lovely person writing, painting, drawing, or sewing—had slipped so far from your grasp as a wife and mother that you wondered whether you could really find them again? I have. After a summer of travel to launch the blog and for my writing projects, things were, well, a bit crispy on the fringes. I missed the simple joys of cooking a dinner and laying a table with pretty flowers and candles.
And then I got to sit with Wendy Speake.
She is part of a dynamic duo with Kelli Stuart in writing Life Creative, Inspiration for Today’s Renaissance Mom. A trained actress with an impressive background on television in shows like JAG, Melrose Place, Star Trek Voyager, and Roswell, Wendy talks of faith and blends a love of drama with deeper issues. But for me, sitting on her couch, she tapped on those deep dreams and brought the embers to life once again. Or at least gave me hope that into the frenzy I could bring old loves and new back into focus and bless my own heart as well as my family’s.
Come sit on the couch with Wendy and I, and in this two-part special interview leave fear behind, and be refreshed. In part one, find your own season of Renaissance. Let the darkness pass, and fit mom back in to motherhood again.
In part two of our interview, be inspired to develop your own creative community. You can be courageous in showing kids an inspired life with your own entrepreneurial spirit or sense of abundance filling their imaginations, too.
I hope you enjoyed spending time with Wendy Speake. Kelli Stuart is wonderful, too, and you can hear the echoes of each voice in the book. It is so very different than any other book you may pick up about creativity and abounds with great examples from the Renaissance and contemporary examples. Whether you’re home with the kids every day or want to make the most of precious moments as a working mother, Wendy and Kelli have captivated me with their freedom and sense of refreshment. This may be a book I’ll re-read every year and pick up a new bunch of ideas.
Help yourself this holiday season and live the deeply creative life you were destined to live!
