Having difficulty accepting that the holidays are here? Looking to restart your excitement for the Christmas season, finding joy that bubbles up from within? Try visiting a local art festival in your area. We discovered art festivals when my kids were much younger and my husband and I wanted to begin sharing our love for art and creative things with them. We’d wander the stalls, nibble on delectable foods, and laugh when they got paint splattered or discovered a fun item. Jonathan used to sit on Santa’s lap (but now he’s almost too big, Santa was brave!) when we would go and time would slow a bit as we ambled and enjoyed live music. Those years were full of uncertainty when we didn’t have a home or steady situation to count on. The simple laughter and fun was a great outlet to feel normal in the midst of a season of trials, and remember the larger story of the season after all.
From those early years to now, we still love to connect with beauty to shape memories together. Come on our recent visit to the Sawdust Art Festival below.
If you live in Southern California, the Sawdust Art Festival in the Laguna Beach area features wonderful glass blowing, child-friendly crafts, visits with Santa and fun music festivals. There are many beautiful displays of whimsical art, painters, clothing, and jewelry too.
Does your area have an arts district or enclave? It’s a great way to restart your interest in the holidays and sets a nice tone for the weeks to come. Happy Thanksgiving and hope your season is wonderful!
