This summer was extraordinary for Thorn & Vine, and with its launch came many opportunities to nurture the writing side of things, and also start spreading the word about resources for teens, tweens, and adults for more resilience in life.
Daytime at Nine
I was honored to share a snapshot of our experience as wildfire survivors as well as tips to thrive in times of adversity on Fox News San Antonio. Here’s the interview!

One of the special connections I made was with author Pam Vredevelt who helps people find a path from losing children. She is such a caring and amazing person. Find out more about her work, and new book launching this month, at her website.
Writers Conferences
I attended wonderful conferences for the writing dream of my middle grade work, both SCBWI for children’s book writers and illustrators, and ACFW, for Christian fiction.
SCBWI brought insights into publishing from young adult down to picture books. It was my first conference with this group, and I loved meeting so many picture book authors. They take notes in many different ways, some doodling or using picture diagrams instead of words. I also loved getting direct feedback on my manuscript from publishers and seeing the direction of the industry at large.
I’ve just returned from my third conference with ACFW in Nashville, and the friendships and teaching were phenomenal. I’ve loved watching friends’ careers take off and connecting with so many people with warm hearts and messages. Hearing from Donald Maass and Ted Dekker were both inspiring to write characters with depth and shape, and live life that way too. It was super seeing friends from Seekerville too!
I also taped my first podcast with Reverend Misty, and will be on her show in the coming month. I loved the freedom to go “deep” with a message to help other wildfire survivors and anyone tangled up in forgiveness issues.
Find out more about her amazing forgiveness algorithm at http://revmisty.com/.
It’s been an amazing few months, and I can’t wait to share more resources and inspiring stories with you this month on Thorn & Vine!
